Invitation from the
President
of the European Society of Hypertension
and Chairman of the Meeting
| Dear Friends, it is a great pleasure
for me to most cordially welcome you to the 11th scientific meeting
of the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) which will be held in Milan, June
15-19,
2001. The scientific programme will continue the tradition of the many ESH meetings which have been held in Milan in the past. That is, a large portion of the programme will be devoted to oral and poster presentations which will be selected from the abstracts submitted by the participants, based on the assessment of four expert Reviewers per abstract. The programme will also include: 1) state-of-the-art lectures, debates and topical workshops to complement presentations of original research with views on topics of basic and clinical interest from worldwide authorities in hypertension 2) Satellite Symposia organized by investigators or Drug Industry, which will be held in the days before, after and during (evenings) the main meeting to allow more specific information on new treatments of hypertension and related cardiovascular diseases to be presented and discussed 3) breakfast workshops and scientific sessions organized by the Working Groups of ESH and presentations, in separate sessions, of the research activities of young European investigators. This will provide, I believe, a full update on current range and level of European research on this vital area of medicine, also including, as always in the past, significant contributions from extra European countries. The programme has been outlined by the Scientific Council of ESH and the meeting will have the patronage of the Italian Society of Hypertension and of the University of Milan and Milan-Bicocca. Once again, the Milan University will allow the European meeting to be hosted in the University central building which will permit participants to enjoy its beautiful and historical sites. The European Society of Hypertension intends to encourage participation and presentations of young investigators, and to this aim has elected to have lower registration fees for participants younger than 35 years. Furthermore, with the generous help of industry, two hundred travelling or accommodation grants have been established to help European investigators with limited financial resources, whose abstracts will be selected for either oral or poster presentation; the registration fees of these investigators have been waived. Lower registration fees have also been planned for the members of the European Society of Hypertension. I look forward to seeing you in Milan. Yours sincerely Giuseppe Mancia |
