She was born in Rovigo and she graduated from the "Benedetto Marcello
Conservatory" in Venice with Iris Adarni Corradetti. In 1969 she made her debut in Mantova with
La Boheme and the year after she performed in Il Trovatore at the Regio Theatre of Parma. In 1971 she won the Contest for new Verdian voices organized by RAI. During the 1971/1972 season she performed in Verdi's
Il Corsaro at the Regio Theatre of Parma and at the Comunale of Trieste; she played the main role in
Giovanna D'Arco at the Fenice Theatre in Venice, in Trieste and at the Opera of Rome. Soon after she participated in La
Scala's tour in Munich with Verdi's La Messa di Requiem, in September 1972 she made her debut in Verdi's
I Due Foscari in Chicago. In 1973 she sang at the Teatro, Nuovo in Turin, she made her debut at La Scalds with
Suor Angelica, she also performed in Brussels (Othello) at the Arena of Verona
(Simon Boccanegra) and in Los Angeles (La Boheme). In 1973 she sang in the
Don Carlos at the Fenice of Venice, in Capuleti e Montecchi in Trieste and she made her debut at the Covent Garden in London with
La Boheme and at the Opera of Paris with La Boheme and Don
Carlos. In 1975 she made her first appearance at the Metropolitan in New York with
La Boheme and Carmen, she then returned to the Covent Garden in London with
Un Ballo in Maschera which she soon performed at the Metropolitan and the Opera of Paris. During the 1974/1975 season she returned to La Scala
(Simon Boccanegra) and she made her debut with Traviata in Trieste, Verona and Turin. Since then many other important experience have influenced her career:
Luisa Miller at the Covent Garden, Anna Bolena at the Opera of Rome,
Il Trovatore and La Traviata at the Arena of Verona, in 1978/1979
Lucrezia Borgia at the Teatro Comunale of Florence, Maria di Rudenz at the Fenice of Venice,
Don Giovanni in Genoa and once again at La Scala with I Due
Foscari. She made her performances of Rossini's operas: Semiramide in Turin,
Tancredi and La Donna del Lago at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro,
L'Assedio di Corinto in Florence, Il Viaggio a Reims in Pesaro and soon after at La Scala of Milan. At the Stadtsoper in Vienna she made her debut
with Fedora at the beginning of October 1995; on this occasion she has been awarded of the title of Kammersaengerin.
